How Are You Speaking to Yourself?

HufPo.Text.Speaking

I used to speak to myself with such unkindness, most of the time not even realizing it or it’s impact.

Luckily, I no longer do and shared a bit of my story in my most recent Huffington Post blog.

I Dropped The Ball

Balls.text

It’s been a long time since I’ve shared.

As working women I know you can relate to juggling too many balls.  The feeling of just too much – that something has to give. My blog was a ball I chose to drop.

I dropped it with a choice to be kind to myself. Full stop.

But now I’m back.

I have clarity and intention.

My mission is to be back in service to women just like us.

Women who want to:

  •        Thrive at work and in life but too often feel like we are failing at both.
  •         Do what we have been avoiding with increased confidence.
  •         Expand our networks in ways that add value to us and work within our schedule
  •         Connect with other like-minded women in relevant and productive ways
  •         Stop feeling like we are alone.
  •         Learn and leverage how others navigate similar scenarios

Sure, but why does it feel like such a challenge sometimes?

Because this is life and our lives are full.

And…it is the ONLY life we have to live.

What I now know is that the details around us are not going to change, just how we choose to navigate them can.

But, we don’t know what we don’t know.

Which leads me to my mission.

My mission is to be an outlet for women, just like us. To plug into and to create the change we desire.  To leverage the experiences of other women in service of each other. I have some exciting new projects on the go that I CAN’T wait to share!

But in the meantime…

I just wrote a Huffington Post article titled: Is Status Quo Killing You? .

A great place to start is choosing to do things differently. To start taking inspired action. To get out of your own way, #GOOYOW, so you can live a life that brings you way more fun, joy, and success.

Until the next time!

Best wishes, me.

3 Steps to Take the Struggle Out of Your Juggle

I don’t like the word balance.

I feel that it sets us up for disappointment, and feelings of failure, inadequacy and overwhelm.

In the search for “balance” we often end up simply adding more balls to the ones we are already struggling to juggle.

Spending our everyday just passing ball after ball through the air on autopilot.

Juggling

4 Beliefs to Fuel Your Action

I am on a roadshow.  Traveling to some of the most beautiful cities in western Canada hosting over 200 women along the way.

In every workshop my guests leave committed to doing something differently and I am reminded that we all have something to gain from taking inspired and purposeful action.

…. what’s the impact if you don’t take the actions you’ve been avoiding?

3 Ways to Make Your Everyday Count

I used to get frustrated when the end of the week would roll around and I still hadn’t done what I said I wanted to do.  Even with the best of intentions, I just got too busy.

One week would flow into the next and nothing would have changed.

Life got in the way.

Dare to Dream…Bigger

Dreaming doesn’t come easy to me.

I only started giving myself permission to dream a few years ago.

I avoided it at all costs out of a fear of not achieving whatever I may have aspired for.  I equated dreaming to setting goals, which I also avoided.

I didn’t want to fall short of them, to fail.

I can see the shortcomings of my old approach in how I operated my previous company Pippalily.  No clear direction of where I was going or what I was working towards. I chased shinny object, was easily distracted and wasn’t aware of the impact until after I had sold.

My old approach can be equated to taking a yearlong road trip without a final destination.

Spending a lot of time, energy and money but at the end of the year, in spite of some good times, may not be any further ahead than where I had started.

DaretoDream

Recently, before our Canadian boys took to the ice against Russia to win GOLD at the World Junior Championships, my husband, our oldest kids and I had an incredible opportunity to be inspired by two exceptional Canadian athletes, Jennifer Botterill and Chris Pronger, in a Fireside chat hosted by RBC.

One of the vivid takeaways was when Jennifer shared a memory of a dinner with her father at the age of 15.  He asked her about her dreams. She told him she wanted to play for Canada in the Olympics, but didn’t know if she could do it.  His response was “Why not you!”.   She’s since won 3!

Her dream was bold.

It was going to take a lot of work without any guarantees, but she owned it anyway.

She allowed herself to dream BIG….and I realized that I too want to play BIGGER.

I now dream, but I realized I was still muting them.

In that moment, I realized that despite the fact that I’ve been planning my 2015 when I look at my goals from this perspective I was still playing small.

I was limiting myself.

How about you?  Are you also playing small?

It’s not about discounting our original goals or desires for 2015, but what if they were stepping stones to something even bigger than we had acknowledged for ourselves for this year or in the future?

Let’s do this.

Let’s dream ……BIGGER than you may have already planned for (or maybe you haven’t yet) in 2015.

3 STEPS TO DREAMING BIGGER

1.     Trust that it’s OK not to know exactly HOW it will happen.

2.     Ask Yourself:

  • What are some things that would be so incredibly delicious and amazing to have achieved or experienced in the years to come?
  • What do you want to accomplish this year that will position you to be well on your way?

3.     Write Them Down.

The process can be thrilling if you allow yourself.

Dare to Dream…..Bigger!

Here’s to an awesome 2015!!!

3 Steps to A New Beginning

September feels like a new beginning. I know I am not alone.

Between my friends and clients it is amazing how many have shared the same.

Sometimes our new beginnings are FORCED, like my client who was told she has to look for another job.

Other times, it’s a CHOICE, like for my friend who has chosen to quit the job she hated…
And then there’s everything in between from divorce to moving cities, etc.

For me, my new beginning stems from the fact that I chose to unplug and totally disconnect from work over the summer. There were so many benefits and I feel very grateful to have done it, however it does come at a cost.

My calendar feels less than stellar and it’s time for me to re-focus to make sure that one year from now, I don’t look back and feel that I’m still in the same spot.

Even if you don’t have a new beginning “happening”, you can Choose for September to be an intentional starting point.

Here are three things I am going to do and you can too:

#1 STOP AND GET CLEAR.
This is where we get clarity about what we want to transpire between now and 6, 10, 12 months from now, or whatever time frame works for you.

You can even start by asking yourself:

“What do I want more of?” and “What do I want less of?”

Then get SPECIFIC about your goals.
I find that with a plan, I feel like I am in the driver’s seat, vs having my wheels spinning and not making any traction.

#2 TAKE ACTION.
Enough said.
A tactic is to schedule your activity. Put your priorities into your calendar to make time for them.

#3 BE GRATEFUL
This summer I was introduced to a really simple concept that resonated with me.

The concept comes from a man who I had never heard of prior to watching his video. His name is Vishen Lakhiani of www.mindvalley.com. He shares how his business and life thrive and prosper when he’s in FLOW.

Which in concept is a balance between being:

GRATEFUL AND HAPPY FOR TODAY       AND       HAVING A CLEAR VISION OF WHERE YOU ARE GOING

I know that I often get stuck and focus on what I have yet to achieve or the gap between where I am vs where I want to be, or what I’m not doing.

I know it’s not helpful.

It impacts my ability to enjoy the moment and be happy for what I have created and have in my life.

I know that feeling happy propels me at work and in life to do better.
So, being in FLOW is my new Choice.

I invite you to follow these 3 steps and create your purposeful beginning too.
